It was a natural progression for her, as she had already taken some important steps in her rentals, such as providing toiletries made from biodegradable plastic and implementing a sustainability chart aimed at travellers.

Process of Validation

Sophie, the owner of Location Lac Annecy, took a proactive approach to achieve the Sustonica validation badge for her company. To oversee the validation process, she appointed Lola Pertin, a highly motivated and passionate team member, as the project manager.

Step 1: Documentation Gathering
To efficiently gather the necessary documentation, the team sent out requests to property owners via email and utilised a Google form for easy document uploads. Lola was responsible for verifying and uploading the received documents to their Sustonica dashboard.

Step 2: Guidebook Content & Procurement
Concurrently, the Location Lac Annecy team diligently worked on producing the guidebook content proposed by the Sustonica standard. Additionally, they began procuring eco-friendly cleaning products to replace the conventional ones, showcasing their commitment to sustainability.

Step 3: Photo Tours
Once all property owners uploaded their documents, Lola conducted the photo tour of each property. Although the initial tours took more time as Lola familiarized herself with the process, she soon streamlined the process, completing each property's photo tour in just 8 minutes.

Step 4: Changes to the Website
As the Sustonica validation badges were issued, Lola ensured their prominent display in the listing site descriptions and added them as watermarks to the first photo of each property, effectively showcasing the properties' eco-friendly and sustainable status. The website team also added a new filter in their website “Location éco-responsable” where all badged properties appear.

Partnership Outcomes (last update August 2023)

  • Badges: all short-term rentals that have been validated have their badges in the first photo of the listing as a watermark.
  • About Us: a paragraph about sustainability and Sustonica was added to the about us page to inform travellers of their commitment to sustainability.
  • Further Expected outcome (waiting for feedback): Sophie eagerly awaits the first guest reviews, as she is particularly excited to hear feedback on the sustainability practices implemented in the properties. She strongly believes that these reviews will showcase the positive impact of their eco-friendly initiatives on guests' experiences.

    Sophie has made a promise to be transparent about the booking numbers of properties with the Sustonica badge compared to those without it. As soon as the data becomes conclusive, she is committed to revealing this information.
